New Rochelle native - and former Ranger - Kevin Shattenkirk was a key cog in the Tampa Bay Lightning’s Stanley Cup victory after they topped the Dallas Stars in game six to claim the cup on Monday.
In the playoffs, Shattenkirk, a 5-11 defenseman, notched 13 points, including three goals - one game-winner - and 10 assists.
Following the Lightning’s championship, Shattenkirk was interviewed by the broadcasters, at which point he proclaimed that he was going to take the Cup back to New Rochelle for a celebration parade in his hometown.
“No it’s going to be the first (Stanley Cup parade) one,” he said. “I’m so happy to bring it back there. Like I said, there are a lot of people that helped me get to this point and I want to thank them.
“This is amazing,” Shattenkirk continued. “I can’t wait to bring it back to the people of New Rochelle.”
